Wisconsin Farm Technology Days

June 20-22, a farm just south of River Falls was host to a huge farm exposition. It has been a big deal in town for quite a few months. They expected about 80,000 people to attend during the three-day period. Shae was in charge of coming up with a booth about severe weather for the Family Adventure Tent. This tent was designed for younger children about 6 to 12 years old. Things went well the first to days of the expo. The third day however, it rained some during the night, we almost got stuck getting to the parking spot which was in an alfalfa field. After we got to the tent it started to rain and it rained very hard for some time. Gradually, the wood chip base of the tent turned into a lake with wood chips floating on the surface. It was quite the event. The same thing was happening through much of the 100-acre tent city. It stopped raining about 11:00, but they had to cancel the rest of the expo. We left the truck in the parking area until about 5 p.m. and went back to see if we might be able to drive it out of the parking lot. We never would have made it then if there hadn't been a tractor to pull it out to the road. I guess the whole expo was a demonstration of severe weather. Way to go Shae!

They dug a soil pit for the event. After the storm it was almost completely filled with water and wood chips. The water depth in the middle of the pit was about 5 feet.
